Manila Temple Trip
You might be confused about the title but I’ll explain later. It has been another amazing week here in Sampaloc! Thank you to everyone for your emails! I am cracking up right now as I read them! Thanks for your inspirational words and encouragement!
Sister Joji passed her interview! She is getting baptized on Saturday! It really is amazing how far she has come in the past month and it just goes to show how the Gospel of Jesus Christ can change lives! More to come…
Wednesday was transfer day! Elder Gallarde (our pinoy kabahay) got transferred to Paranyaque. Elder Zook is now the district leader and I know that he will do an amazing job! We knew that Elder Taylor would be training but we didn’t know who yet. Turns out he’s an American named Elder Briskin! We now have 4 americans in the same house in the Philippines haha! Elder Taylor and him are really going to have to study the language hard, but I know that they will be stronger for it.
Also on Wednesday, we got to go to the Temple with members from the ward and the twins. It was really a great experience for them. After a little while we decided to go back to Sampaloc with sister Lanie because she knew where we could get on the MRT (railway) to take us back there. Well we buy our tickets and are waiting for the train, but when it comes it’s so full that we can’t even fit one of us in there! Let alone all 6 of us in the group! We left the station and got on this super sketchy bus that was just as full as the train had been. Since it was rush hour traffic just like always, it took us a while to even get close to where we were going. Then we found a jeepney to go by the Church just before it left! By some miracle, we made it back to our apartment by 9:30!
Here is the “Disneyland” highlight. That comes from what President Ostler told Elder Zook during interviews. Elder Zook told him that he was trying really hard to make my first area a great experience. President Ostler said, “Elder Beagley needs to experience the whole missionary experience, not just Disneyland.” It’s true what he said that I need to experience the trials to enjoy the good experiences. These past few days though have really been Disneyland!! Before this week we were working really hard to try and get our investigators to progress and now they really are! On Saturday, the sisters in our district had a baptism. Elder Zook and I invited a lot of people to go and we were pretty excited. Then it was even better than we expected! Nine of our investigators came including Sister Erlinda, the twins, and most of the Urbano family (the one we found through that referral last week). After the baptism we all ate and then the ward did the best fellowshipping I have seen so far. The twins were playing basketball in the Church League, the Urbano kids were playing with some of the member children, and Sister Erlinda and the Urbano’s mother and grandmother were practicing a dance with the Relief Society for the ward Christmas party! Elder Zook and I couldn’t stop smiling! It was like this weird proud parent moment haha! It’s like these people are taking their first “baby steps” in the gospel and I could not be happier for them!
I really am starting to love these people so much! I know that what I’m feeling is much like the love that our Heavenly Father has for us. He loves us so much that he gave his son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins and to give his life for us. I know that through the Gospel of Jesus Christ we can be blessed and happy in this life and return to live with our Heavenly Father in the life to come. I’m so grateful to be here in the Philippines as a missionary and I’m grateful to have your support and love through your emails and prayers.
Mahal-namahal ko kayo lahat! Ingat po kayo!
